Vatera

Measuring 10 km wide, Vatera Beach is the biggest beach on Lesvos. Due to its great expanse Vatera Beach combines organized facilities, such as beach bars and restaurants with areas free of any umbrellas and recliner beach chairs offering a relative degree of isolation. The coastal zone and the sea bottom is a mix of sand and pebbles. The beach has been subject to human intervention by the installation of concrete platforms and wooden bases for dining amenities reaching as far as the shoreline. Furthermore, the beach has sparse tamarisk tree and sea daffodil vegetation. Althouhg the coastal zone presents no tight urban building, tourist and vacationing activities are pronounced, while a significant part of the area is covered with farm lands and natural vegetation segments.
